Deadpool 2 Box Office Tracking Below Original Movie

Deadpool 2 will be one of the biggest blockbusters this summer, even though its current projections are a bit below the original movie. Ryan Reynolds finally realized his dream project in 2016 by putting the Merc on the big screen in all his R-rated versions. A loyal adaptation of Deadpool once seemed to be a risk, but the results showed that the bet was worth it. The first film not only received positive reviews (and even a bit of enthusiasm for the awards), it was a commercial giant and became the highest rated R-rated film of all time.

Obviously, Fox hastened to push ahead with the development of a franchise for Wade Wilson, and the sequel is just around the corner. While predecessors of Deadpool 2 took advantage of limited competition in February, this year’s installation created an outstanding summer movie season with a release date in May. The studio has confidence in the post office to deliver the products and it seems that it will definitely do it.

For Box Office Pro, Deadpool 2’s long-term follow-up suggests that it will even earn $ 100 million in the first three days. By comparison, the first film made its debut a total of $ 132 million ($ 152.1 million for the 4-day Presidents Day Day). According to estimates, Deadpool 2 could end its domestic career with a total of $ 242 million, a figure well below Deadpool’s $ 363 million. While this discrepancy is striking, there is nothing to fear.

Deadpool is quite profitable compared to other big franchises. The first film had a production budget of only $ 58 million, and while the follow-up seems to have more resources, it’s likely to remain in the same stadium (as this is the Deadpool brand). $ 242 million in addition to what Deadpool 2 does internationally is more than enough to make a decent profit and ensure continuity of the series. Why there are so many gaps between the entries probably has to do with the startup window. Deadpool 2 comes out shortly after Avengers: Infinity War and a week before Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is aimed at a similar audience. The interest in Deadpool while it is still there may not be so high in anything else that comes out.

In general, this is a great development for Fox, given its big plans for the future. Deadpool 2 configures X-Force very explicitly, a movie that could go into production this autumn with the return of Reynolds and Josh Brolin. Domino actress Zazie Beetz also has a three-movie contract with the studio, which means that Fox hopes to have her by his side for a long time. Fortunately, the Deadpool franchise seems to be just beginning. While the other X-Men films have many questions, Wade Wilson and his friends are in great shape.
